Fix it in place by countersinking 5 equally spaced 2-1 2" long trim head screws 1 4" through the top of the mantel shelf and into the wood blocking over its entire length. Note: No adhesive is required for the shelf. Wipe away all excess adhesive that squeezes out around all mantel components using a wet cloth. This should be done immediately as clean up becomes very difficult once the adhesive sets. Fill any gaps and seams using S101 PL Acrylic Siliconized Latex Caulk.
